Building on the Built is a platform which aims to promote the topic of architectural work connected with existing structures and, more specifically, to look at work that might challenge the way in which work on existing structures is approached today. Building on the Built aims to focus on work that celebrates an alternative to pure architecture, work that is evolving, mongrel and collaborative with time.

An irregular series of talks, hosted at the offices of Tuckey Design Studio in London, have included: Níall McLaughlin, Sergison Bates Architects, Donald Insall Associates, Roz Barr Architects, McCollough Mulvin Architects, Henley Halebrown Architects, Office MMX, Wallace Liu, Dow Jones Architects, Vora Arquitectura, Pierre D’Avoine, Happel Cornelisse Verhoeven, Tapio Snellman, Jim Stephenson, the Slovenian practice Ambient and the author Fred Scott.

In parallel to the live events, we publish articles, texts and images on this website that act as an accompanying archive. The archive includes architectural projects, photographic investigations and other artistic responses to built work. We welcome submission ideas and possible collaborations.

Building on the Built was set up by Jonathan Tuckey and Peter Youthed as a series of public events to accompany the retrospective of work by Tuckey Design Studio which was held in Kings Cross, London in 2016.
